Privacy policy

Big Red Pen is a grant review service run by Catherine Hulshof, PhD (“I,” “me”). This policy explains what information this website and my review service collect, and what I do with it.

This website

This site has no contact forms, no accounts, no advertising, and no tracking or analytics cookies. Its fonts and images are served from this domain, so your browser doesn’t contact third parties like Google when you visit.

The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request in order to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Cloudflare handles that data under its own privacy policy.

When you email me

If you contact me, I receive whatever you choose to send: usually your name, email address, institution, and details about your proposal and deadline. If you book a review, I also receive your proposal files and the billing details needed to invoice you, including any contractor or tax forms your institution requires.

I use this information only to reply to you, provide the review, invoice you, and keep the business and tax records the law requires. I don’t sell or rent your information, and I don’t add you to a mailing list.

Your proposal

Just as on an NSF panel, I treat your proposal and my review as confidential. I don’t share them with anyone without your permission, and I don’t use your ideas in my own work. Once the review is delivered and paid in full, I delete your proposal files. I keep only the business and tax records the law requires, such as invoices and payment details.

Your choices

You can ask me what information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it, by emailing me at catherine.hulshof [at] gmail [dot] com. I may need to keep invoices and payment records for tax purposes.

Children

This site and service are not directed to children under 13, and I don’t knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If I change this policy, I’ll update it on this page and change the effective date above.
